In February we did a post explaining what 'Insure Your Love' was all about and in it, we mentioned that September is Life Insurance Awareness Month. These have been instituted by the non-profit organization, Life Happens. So I thought I'd share some more interesting information I found on life insurance.... Did you know that unclaimed life insurance benefits are paid to your state? I recently discovered that fact and that there are over $1 Billion dollars in unclaimed benefits out there! It’s that time of year again…time when the kids are going back to school. And time when many young drivers will be out on the road, driving to class or extra-curricular activities. Perhaps even an after-school job. As adults, we’re used to road rules and know where everything is in our vehicles should we need to access them quickly. But our teenage and young-adult children aren’t. So, we’ve compiled a short list of things to do and check to provide a safe and confident environment for inexperienced drivers. Last year about this time, we talked about Insurance and Patriotism. Memorial and Flag Day have recently passed, and Independence Day is right around the corner so I thought this would be a good time to speak to you about Veterans and Medicare and Medicare for Veterans. Before we get into that, do you know the history behind Flag Day? June 14th is the anniversary of the adoption of the stars and stripes as official flag in 1777. After three decades of state and local celebrations, Flag Day was officially established by the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson on May 30th, 1916. In 1949 President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th as National Flag Day. Amazing isn’t it that our government allows this day to be a Federal Holiday, although all Federal establishments may not honor it? Now let’s talk about Veterans and Medicare…. Other than slams, abuse and disrespect against our Veterans, nothing irritates me more than to think of someone defrauding our elderly citizens! Recently there has been a wave of Scams (mostly telephone) targeted toward our Senior Citizen population. Granted, not everyone on Medicare is, or considers themselves, elderly, but with people living longer than they have in decades past, fraudulent scams affect hundreds, maybe thousands, of senior citizens every day. We’re told in Proverbs (13:22) that a good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children, but with today’s tax laws, is it possible to leave a legacy to your children or grandchildren that will not be shared with the government? Yes, there is! Bet the title of this post has you wondering what that old adage about the weather has to do with Insurance. Lots! Brought on by Spring storms, March winds can mean anything from a gentle breeze to huge gusts to tornadoes. April showers sometimes mean flooding and those May flowers for June brides lend to thoughts of insuring your love. In our October post, Medicare Acronyms & Changes for 2019, we mentioned Medicare’s “Open Enrollment” period which allows you a one-time change in your MA plan. In this post, we’ll go into a little more detail to help you unravel the Medicare OEP mystery. Our office will be closed Monday, Dec 24th & Tuesday, Dec. 25th as well as Monday, Dec. 31st and Tuesday, Jan. 1st in observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays. We will resume normal business hours (9am - 5 pm) on Wednesday, Dec. 26th and Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019. As we move through the holidays and into a new year, we hope you'll take some time to browse the many blog posts we've shared over the past year or so and that you'll find a wealth of information beneficial to your life, home, auto and/or Medicare insurance concerns. When faced with life, home or work changes, we certainly hope you'll give us a call and let us service your insurance needs. It's especially important to insure those new toys you got for Christmas! (ie; boats, jet skis, ATV's, jewelry, artwork, etc.) Meanwhile - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We look forward to serving you in 2019 and beyond.... Tommy Curtis and Staff |
