Insure Your Love….

While scrolling around on social media, (depending on your audience) you may have come across the phrase “Insure Your Love” or hashtag, #insureyourlove and wondered what that was all about.

I know I did!

I researched and found that the non-profit organization, Life Happens, created the national awareness campaign, Insure Your Love in 2010 to bring public awareness to the importance of Life Insurance.

This organization also coordinates Life Insurance Awareness month each year in September and Disability Insurance Awareness in May.

The Insure Your Love campaign runs the entire month of February – which makes sense because it coincides with the extravagant advertisements pushing us to show our loved ones how much we care with Valentine’s Day cards, gifts, etc.

Life Insurance companies and agents are encouraged to refer their clients to the Life Happens website to upload photos of their loved ones. For each photo uploaded, Life Happens donates $1 to a scholarship fund (also created by the foundation) to give college tuition help to students who have lost a parent.

There are two major reasons to have insurance: Because you owe someone or because you love someone.

As an agent, I am sometimes amazed at the number of people who have little or no life insurance to protect their family. Many site costs as the main reason they don’t include Life Insurance in their budgets, but most are unaware of how reasonable a Term Life policy can be!

NOW is always a good time to purchase life insurance, but let’s look at a few special life events when you can give this gift of love….

*Birth of a child or grandchild. Juvenile Life Insurance is cheap! Depending on the company a $25,000 life insurance policy can run as low as $7.99 a month. Some offer a ‘paid up’ option whereas the premiums stop after 20 years but the policy is good for the life of the insured. This makes a policy not only affordable, but a great gift to your child when he or she becomes an adult and is thinking about purchasing insurance.

*Purchasing (or refinancing) a home. Again, depending on the company, age and health of the client, a $250,000 30-year Term Life policy can run as low as $30 a month. That’s only $1 per day to ensure your family does not lose the home in the instance of the breadwinner’s untimely death.

*Getting Married. You wouldn’t think of marrying the love of your life without a ring or ceremony, so why would you not present your new spouse with an insurance policy on yourself?

*Retirement. You’ve worked your entire life, had great benefits then retirement comes along, and you find the huge life insurance policy the company carried on you is not actually yours. What do you do? Again, if you are relatively healthy you can still purchase life or burial insurance on yourself at very reasonable rates. Health not so good? There are guaranteed issue or graded death policies that can be put in place to help your family when the time comes to plan your funeral.

*Responsible for a disabled or handicapped family member? Purchasing life/burial insurance on this person helps protect you (and your other family members) from financial strain due to bills associated with his or her death.

If you’re ready to discuss your Life Insurance needs, give us a call and let our Life Specialist help you get this protection in place.

Until next time take care and remember…Life Insurance is a great way to show how much you care!
